Description
DataM is a website (https://datam.jrc.ec.europa.eu) that acts as knowledge and data hub about the research carried out by the European Commission and partners in resource economics and sustainability.
Agri-food, bioeconomy, biotechnologies, climate change, food and nutrition security, are some of the concerned disciplines.
Datasets of DataM consist mainly in estimates, coming from analysis or economic models: for example outlooks on future scenarios.
These are typically developed for policy analysis purposes with EU or global scope; a section of the site is dedicated to the Pan-African Network for economic Analysis of Policies (PANAP).
Behind the website, and beyond the focussed scientific sectors, DataM is an Information System allowing to efficiently store, retrieve and enquire any kind of structured dataset.
In fact, it is a flexible tool for managing data of “conceptual origin” (structured, not voluminous, nor fast changing), a traditional class of data that differs from the big data but represents an important quota of research databases.
In addition, it allows producing web interactive dashboards for the interpretation and self-analysis of these data.
Such flexibility, together with the wide scope of resource economics, favours synergies of DataM with other web platforms.
This homonym data collection corresponds in the big lines with the dashboards and datasets included in the DataM website, however the system is flexible and open to store contents catalogued under other collections and/or shared with other applications.
