Description
Directive (EU) 2018/2001 (Renewable Energy Directive recast) specifies the minimum greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions saving thresholds that bioenergy must comply with in order to count towards the renewable energy targets and to be eligible for public support (Art. 29(10)). Annex V (liquid biofuels) and Annex VI (solid and gaseous biomass) of the Directive describe the methodology for GHG emission savings calculations needed to comply with the GHG emission criteria. They also provide a list of Default GHG emission values, aggregated and disaggregated, that operators can use to demonstrate compliance of their product with the GHG criteria. The Joint Research Centre was responsible for the calculation of the typical and default GHG values contained in Annex V and Annex VI. Two datasets in this collection contain input values, GHG emission results and other background data used to compile the calculations on biofuels and solid and gaseous biomass. Stakeholders can use the datasets to get a deeper insight into the values contained in the annexes. In addition, this collection includes a database accompanying the JRC Science for Policy report 'Biomass production, supply, uses and flows in the European Union: First results from an integrated assessment' (EUR 28993 EN). The database contains a list of 380 pathways characterized by LCIA results for multiple impact categories and various biobased commodities. All the LCIA were either completely calculated or re-elaborated within the JRC. The work is framed within the JRC biomass study and is meant to support the EU bioeconomy and the related policies.
Three datasets are presented. Two datasets refer to the inputs data and results contained in Annex V (liquid biofuels) and Annex VI
(power, heat and biogas production) of Directive (EU) 2018/2001 (RED recast). The other dataset is a database of LCIA results for multiple impact categories and various biobased commodities. The datasets can be downloaded as user-friendly Excel files.
