Description
The CDI is used to identify areas suffering from various degrees of drought (areas at risk of agricultural drought, areas where the vegetation has already been affected and areas recovering from drought) and their spatial extent. As the name suggests, the CDI integrates three complementary scientific indicators: the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI), the Soil Moisture Anomaly (SMA), and the fraction of the Photosynthetically Active Radiation (FAPAR) Anomaly.55 The Combined Drought Indicator dataset is a collection of raster maps regularly updated every 10 days (10-day). The CDI is based on 6 impact levels. These levels are: "Watch" when precipitation deficit conditions are occurring,
"Warning" when negative soil moisture anomalies are observed, indicated. Warning conditions usually follow precipitation deficit conditions, "Alert" conditions indicate negative vegetation growth anomalies , usually in combination with precipitation deficit and negative soil moisture anomalies, "Temporary Soil Moisture recovery" when after a drought episode, soil moisture conditions are above the critical threshold but did not improve enough to consider the episode closed; "Temporary Vegetation recovery" when after a drought episode, vegetation conditions are above the critical threshold but did not improve enough to consider the episode closed; "Recovery" when meteorological, soil moisture, and vegetation normal conditions are recovered.
