In the late afternoon of August 17, a vast fire, originating from two separate outbreaks, broke out on the island of Pantelleria, Sicily, fostered by the strong Scirocco wind, still blowing on the island. Several families were evacuated and about 30 people were rescued at sea by the coast guard. Several power interruptions occurred due to the fall of some electrical poles. Several ground teams and Canadair are still deployed. Copernicus EMS Rapid Mapping is requested to provide Delineation and Grading products.
