Since the afternoon of 18 July, a large fire has been affecting the woods around the Bozzano locality of Massarosa, in the province of Lucca. The fire-front is several kilometres long and has burned about 60 hectares of forest and Mediterranean bush. The fire is still ongoing. National and regional civil protection systems were activated to respond with helicopters, a Canadair and at least 50 firefighting teams on the ground. Ash from the fire has also reached the seaside town of Viareggio. The A1 highway is closed for precautionary purposes in the Lucca-Viareggio section. Copernicus EMS Rapid Mapping is requested to provide first estimate, daily delineation monitoring, and grading analysis.
