In the morning of 7 April 2021, the Val Cannobina mountains, near Lake Maggiore, were affected by a large forest fire. Strong foehn winds fuelled the fire, which is still active affecting a large area of the forest. Several teams of Fire Fighters and two aerial fire-fighting amphibious aircraft of the air operations centre of the Italian Civil Protection have been deployed.
