Activation reason:

The CEMS Risk and Recovery Standard has been activated by the Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations - European Emergency Response Coordination Centre (DG-ECHO ERCC), on behalf of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), which operates in Benghazi, Libya, to get an update of the products delivered in 2017 in the framework of a past CEMS activation (Satellite based conflict damage assessment of two selected cities in Libya available at: https://emergency.copernicus.eu/EMSN033). The following products were elaborated to report on the land use and population dynamics of the area:P02.1 – Reference dataset (High Level Update, scale: 1:5,000).This product shows the updated reference information on assets and infrastructures in Benghazi. The product is generated from VHR satellite imagery.P03.1 – LULC Urban Atlas (Update)The LULC: UA @1:10000 (UPDATE) product provides the land use land cover map created by using pre-event VHR optical images and replicating the Urban Atlas (UA) model.P03.4 – LULC Urban Atlas (New)This product provides the land use land cover map created by using pre-event VHR optical images and replicating the Urban Atlas (UA) model.P09 – Reconstruction monitoringThe Reconstruction Monitoring product measures the reconstruction effort over Benghazi after the war whose damages were assessed in the framework of the EMSN033 activation in 2017.P10 – Urban sprawl analysisThe City Growth Analysis product aims to provide a temporal analysis describing the growth and variation of the urban area. To do so, the product generated in the framework of the EMSN033 activation, reflecting the situation in 2017, has been compared with the result of the analysis carried out by using Sentinel-2 images acquired over the whole AOI, i.e. AOI01-BENGHAZI, from 2017 to 2020.P11 – Human footprint evaluation of citiesThe Human Footprint Evaluation of Cities product could serve as a further support to the analysis of the changing of the city, its surrounding and population’s behavior. It is provided by analyzing nightlight images acquired by the SUOMI VIIRS sensor over the whole AOI01-BENGHAZI.P18 – Human settlement mappingThe scope of the Human Settlements Mapping product is to provide information about human settlements structures, and particularly the informal settlements areas, using VHR images and ancillary data.P13 - Ready to print maps and map books for field campaignsThe standard Mapbook product is a collection of the maps showing the products generated in the framework of the activation. P13 includes detailed maps for P03.1, P03.4 and P18 products.
