Description
The dataset contains the extreme storm surge levels (ESSL) at a European scale. The ESSL are estimated from an ensemble of 8 climatic models and the corresponding RCP85 scenarios, for the period from 1/12/2009 to 30/11/2099 and for 8 return periods (5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000) according to the Peak Over Threshold approach.

Lineage information
This is the official version of the European Extreme Storm Surge Level (EESSL) dataset. While the dataset may not be subject to and cannot be validated, it has been developed following the current research methodologies. The authors would like to stress that the question that they wanted to address with this work was "Will extreme SSL in Europe increase in view of climate?", rather than "How much will be the extreme SSL values in Europe in view of climate change?".
