Nitrogen and phosphorus loads to the sea under the High Ambition Scenario 1990-2021 (HAS-HIST) - (v. Apr.2024)

Description

This spatial dataset contains annual nutrient loads (Total Nitrogen and Total Phosphorus) for the High Ambitious Scenario for the period 1990-2021. These estimates were calculated at the outlets of European river basins using the GREEN model (version from April 2024, as described by Grizzetti et al. 2025).

Measures affecting anthropogenic nutrient inputs are the same as in the historical simulation (1990-2021), but nutrient load at the river basins outlet is calculated assuming a theoretical concentration of 2.5 mg N/l for Total Nitrogen and 0.1 mg P/l for Total Phosphorus when the modelled concentration in the historical simulation exceeds these threshold concentrations. Otherwise, the concentrations from the historical simulation are retained (see Grizzetti et al. 2025 for details).

The river basin hydrological data model is based on the Catchment Characterisation and Modelling approach (Vogt et al. 2007; https://data.jrc.ec.europa.eu/dataset/fe1878e8-7541-4c66-8453-afdae7469221).
