Description
Activation date: 2021-06-18
Event type: Humanitarian
Activation reason:
The CEMS Risk and Recovery Standard has been activated by EEAS (European External Action Service) on behalf of the World Bank Group in order to support EU Delegation, World Bank, UN and AfDB in a Recovery and Peace Building Assessment. This aims at understanding causes of the conflict in the North of Mozambique, and at developing a strategy for future Government’s intervention in the area. The ongoing conflict in Cabo Delgado Province started in October 2017 with attacks by insurgents. The attacks have since escalated and gained in range and sophistication. Thousands of people have died and hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced. The goal of the activation is to support the RPBA through the monitoring of the Internally Displaced Person (IDP) camps within six AOIs in Cabo Delgado Province, to analyse their status and composition, highlighting also the changes occurring from May/June 2021 to August/September 2021.Proposed solution and resultsThe updated P19-Population displacement location products are generated through photointerpretation of VHR satellite images acquired in August/September 2021. They provide information about possible changes with respect to May/June 2021, in terms of camp types (e.g. permanent, temporary, IDP camps, etc.), extension and composition (e.g. tents, shelters, facilities, etc.), estimated population and density. The P13- Ready to print maps and map books for field campaigns products include detail maps of each of the P19 products generated, with a focus on the mapped camps. Figure 1. Detail of P19- Population displacement location product in AOI02-Centre de Ntele (extended area), as provided in the P13 products. Situation as of 16.9.2021.Figure 2.
