Event time (UTC): 2018-09-10 00:00:00
Event type: Storm (Tropical cyclone, hurricane, typhoon)
Activation reason:
Tropical Cyclone MANGKHUT-18 is gaining strength and will strike Guam and parts of the Northern Mariana Islands
on Monday 10th Sep, potentially becoming their strongest typhoon strike in almost three years.
Conditions are generally favorable for intensification, including low wind shear and warm sea-surface temperatures,
and Mangkhut is expected to become the equivalent of a Category 2 hurricane as it rakes through the islands.
The peak winds are expected Monday afternoon and evening near the track of the center of Mangkhut,
which appears most likely to track closest to the islands of Rota, Tinian and Saipan.
