EFAS deterministic flood forecasts

QR code

This data set composes of two separate layers, each showing a deterministic flood forecast on a pan-European scale, one based on the deterministic meteorological forecast of the ECMWF and the other one on the deterministic forecast of the DWD. Each layer includes specifications on the expected flood magnitude in terms of exceedance of different threshold levels (EFAS 2-, 5-, and 20-year return period).

This information is produced by the operational EFAS (www.efas.eu) in order to provide the EFAS partners with a more detailed insight into the different forecasts and thresholds.

The update frequency of this data set is twice a day (00:00 and 12:00 UTC); and the spatial coverage is the extended geographic Europe, while the spatial resolution is 5 x 5 km.

Data access

HTML

HTML is the standard markup language used to create web pages and its elements form the building blocks of all websites.

Web service/API

A resource that holds a web service to the dataset.

  • EFAS partners have the possibility to access and download selected products from the operational EFAS by using this password-protected OGC service.

Esri binary grid

Esri binary grid is a proprietary binary variation of an Esri grid, a raster GIS file format developed by Esri. It is also known as an ARC/INFO GRID or ARC GRID. It differs from the other Esri grid variation, a non-proprietary ASCII format.

WMS

A Web Map Service (WMS) is a standard protocol developed by the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) for serving georeferenced map images over the Internet. These images are typically produced by a map server from data provided by a geographic information system (GIS) database.
