Description
Activation date: 2023-05-19
Event type: Other
Activation reason:
The CEMS Risk and Recovery Standard (RRM STD) has been activated by the Administration for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief of the Republic of Slovenia on behalf of the Geological Survey of Slovenia and the University of Ljubljana following a severe rainfall episode that occurred in May 2023. More than 1 100 landslides triggered in eastern Slovenia as a consequence of these heavy rainfalls. The goal of the activation is to assess the risk of soil erosion and landslide in eastern Slovenia.Within AOI01 Maribor North, the Post-Disaster Soil Erosion Risk Assessment shows that the soil loss susceptibility is mostly very low (46.1% of the area) but the classes indicating a moderate or severe risks represent both around 20% of the area. A significant area with a severe risk of soil erosion is located on the North of the city of Maribor.P16 Post-disaster soil erosion risk assessment – Graphs for AOI01 and 02 and Overview map over AOI01The Post-disaster landslide risk assessment shows both AOIs are characterized by a very-low landslide risk (respectively 97.2% and 98.9% of the AOIs) and only a few localized areas present a significant risk of landslides (risk ≥ moderate). But even if this analysis shows that the risk of landslide of a significant size is very limited, this does not rule out the possibility that small-scale localized phenomena may occur.
