Wildfire in Corfu, Greece (2023-07-23)

Description

A wildfire that started at Sunday, on July 23 afternoon at 15:50 (UTC) in a forest area near Loutses village on Corfu (Kerkira) island is ongoing. Residents of the villages Santa, Megoula, Porta, Palia Perithia, Sinies, Rou, Katavolo, Kentroma, Tritsi, Kokokila, Sarakiniatika, Plagia, Kalami, Vlachatika, Kavalerena, Viglatouri and Nisaki were ordered to evacuate. According to the Hellenic Fire Service 76 firefighters are currently operating in the area, assisted by 1 ground force group, 24 vehicles, 4 water-bombing aircrafts and 3 helicopter. Personnel and means of municipalities, Region and groups of volunteers are assisting. Copernicus EMS Rapid Mapping is requested to provide initial rough estimation, wildfire extent and damage assessment emergency mapping
